Louise Carver’s new album ‘Look To The Edge’

The albums 1st single ‘Warrior’ featuring Zulu Boy is currently being delivered to all South African contemporary radio.

With ‘Look To The Edge’, Louise wanted to achieve an edgier electronic/pop progression with an infusion of South African rhythms and percussion into her sound that would have strong appeal to both South African and international audiences.  This was a major theme in her approach to the song writing and production of the new album.

‘Look To The Edge’s 1st single ‘Warrior’ featuring Zulu Boy is the album’s leading example of this infusion.  Louise Carver wrote ‘Warrior’ with a particular rhythm in mind and then combined Zulu drums into an exciting electronic sound to complete the song.  Zulu Boy stood out as a great potential collaborator for ‘Warrior’ both to re-enforce its message as well as to legitimise the musical references that created it. His compelling rap and contribution to the percussive sounds in the song shot ‘Warrior’ forward as the best way to introduce ‘Look To The Edge’ as the albums 1st single to Louise Carver’s substantial South African audience.

“I am so proud of ‘Warrior”’, says Louise, “I wrote it to empower myself and anyone else who has felt humiliated or disempowered.  The lyrics come from an inner strength and self awareness I’ve developed as a musician and having Zulu Boy feature on the song just takes it to a new level.  I hope ‘Warrior’ will become a war cry for everyone who wants their voice heard!”

Louise Carver has enjoyed numerous accolades as a prominent South African contemporary musician over recent years, she has released 2 studio albums with Sony Music (‘Silent Scream’ (2005) & ‘Saved By The Moonlight’ (2007)) as well as a collection of live acoustic compositions combining her own repertoire with South African classics called ‘The Home Tour – Live’(2009).

‘Look To The Edge’ was produced by Brian O’Shea & Marius Brouwer at Pop Planet Studios in Johannesburg.

Louise Carver is proud to introduce her debut jewellery range aptly entitled, ‘Jingle & Chimes’. The name encapsulates the musical sound jewellery makes when moving against your body. As music has been Louise’s vocation for so many years, she wanted to extend her voice and creative love for all things timelessly ‘South African’, into a jewellery range.
